As a self-proclaimed skill collector and information junkie I am constantly looking for the next "thing" that piques my interest and immerse myself. The desire to explore and create is a journey that has led me backpacking across North America, gutting fish on a boat in Alaska, photographing the effects of war in Mozambique, and chasing surf in the Philippines.
Photography set its hook at an early age. Composition and light fascinated me, and I exposed as much film as my bank account would allow. Telling a story in a single frame seemed to be the ultimate challenge, until I started writing and directing video. Using a script to tell a story, images to provide a sense of place, and music to bring emotion offered a much more complex problem to solve, but also brought greater satisfaction in the many ways I could communicate with the viewer.
The surf bug bit me one winter while visiting a friend of the East Coast. As I took wave after wave on the head struggling to get outside the impact zone, I knew this would be something I would pursue the rest of my life. Lake Michigan provided an interesting environment to take on such an endeavor. The infrequent surf and limited access to equipment forced me to learn how to shape surfboards and become a meteorologist of surf forecasting.
My interests reach far beyond chasing angry water and sculpting foam. Art, construction projects, coffee, cycling, hand made goods, furniture, travel, and putting another record on the player are just a few things that I high five. Making manufactured objects relatable to consumers has been the focus of my career and I have had the pleasure of incorporating my excitement and love for adventure into the media I create.
